Master’s Level Intern

Dakota Thompson is a Master’s Level Intern at The Refuge Center. She is currently pursuing her LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor) license through Middle Tennessee State University. Dakota earned her Bachelor’s degree in Child and Family Studies from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and has dedicated her career to supporting individuals and families in her community. She is trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), brainspotting, and sandtray therapy.

Dakota brings extensive experience working with children, adolescents, and young adults. Her passion for helping others began early in life, inspiring her to support children and their families through life’s challenges, no matter the circumstances. Through roles as a nanny, work at a children’s hospital, and positions in pediatric mental health agencies, she has developed a deep understanding of the unique needs of young people and their families.

In her counseling approach, Dakota incorporates a variety of techniques to explore the connection between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, fostering personal growth and enhancing her clients’ overall quality of life. She sees herself as a collaborative partner and advocate in the therapeutic relationship, striving to build meaningful connections and empower her clients as they navigate life’s ups and downs
